Special Green Endorsement:
Flt Lt Hassan Khalid, GD (P) is commended for displaying outstanding professionalism in handling a serious in-flight emergency on Mirage aircraft. On 26 October, 2002, during take off roll and close to refusal speed he experienced power surges. He promptly initiated high-speed abort actins and brought the aircraft under control within the remaining length of the runway. Despite his limited flying experience, he handled the emergency at a critical stage of the take off roll in a professional manner, thereby saving a valuable aircraft of PAF.

Flt Lt Talib Hussain, GD (P) is commended for displaying outstanding professionalism in handling a serious in-flight emergency on F-7PG aircraft. On 21 September, 2002, during recovery from MLGCI mission, he experienced jerks on Control Column. The magnitude of fore and aft movements on control column increased, and the control of aircraft became difficult. Despite his low experience on the type, he remained composed and made a flawless landing. His composed behaviour and a professional handling of the emergency averted an accident.

Sqn Ldr Adnan Naimat, GD (P) is commended for displaying outstanding professional skills in handling a serious in-flight emergency on F-7PG aircraft. On 02 October, 2002, while flying 2 Vs 2 mission, he encountered engine flame out. He remained composed, took positive control of the aircraft and after analyzing the emergency correctly, successfully re-lighted the engine. His cool behavior and prompt action averted an accident and saved a valuable PAF aircraft.

FLt Lt Sohail Yousaf, GD (P) is commended for displaying outstanding professional skills in handling a serious in- flight emer¬gency on Glider aircraft. On 01 July, 2002, after take off, he experienced air speed indicator failure and there was no other glider pilot available at the base to chase him down. In that critical situation, the pilot maintained his composure and without air speed indication landed the aircraft safely, thus saving a valuable aircraft.

Flt Lt Nadeem Afzal, GD (P) is commended for displaying outstanding professionalism in handling a serious in-flight emergency on Mfi-17 aircraft. On 26 March, 2002 he was scheduled for a cross-country mission. While taking off from Rafiqui, at 150 feet AGL, he experienced severe engine rough running with boost and RPM dropping. He took prompt actions and immediately landed the aircraft on the remaining length of the runway, thus saving a saving a valuable aircraft.

Sqn Ldr Munawar Karim, GD (P) is commended for displaying outstanding professional skills in handling a serious in-flight emergency on Mirage-III aircraft. On 17 October, 2002, he experienced brake failure during landing on a dark-night mission. Despite prompt actions the brakes remained ineffective but he maintained directional control by using emergency brakes and safely stopped the aircraft on the runway. Thus by displaying good professionalism he managed to avert an accident.

FLt Lt Salman Kaleem, GD (P) is commended for displaying outstanding professional skills in handling a serious in- flight emer¬gency on ALT-III Helicopter. On 10 August, 2002, during a ferry mission, rudder pedals of his helicopter became jammed in neutral position. He correctly analysed the emergency and took appropriate actions. During recovery the pedals became free but he made a precautionary landing at a nearby airfield. He remained cool and handled the emergency in an analytical manner, thus saving a valuable aircraft.

Sqn Ldr Waqas Ahmed, GD(P) is commended for displaying outstanding professional skills in handling a serious in-flight emergency on F-16 aircraft. On 14 September, 2002, during a training mission, engine RPM got stuck at Military and no RPM response with throttle movement. Such emergency has never been encountered on F-16, but he remained cool and composed and after analysing the situation correctly, took necessary corrective actions. He later made a modified simulated flameout approach in Secondary Mode of engine and landed safely thus saving a valuable aircraft.

Sqn Ldr Ahmed Mehmood, GD (P) is commended for displaying outstanding professionalism in handling a serious in-flight emergency on Mirage aircraft. On 11 December, 2002, during the exit phase of airfield strike mission, when he engaged after burners, Engine and A/B fire warning light came ON. He took prompt actions and lights went OFF, however, during recovery he experienced multiple emergencies involving Alternator and A/B fire warning lights, emergency gear lowering. He remained composed, took appropriate actions and handled the multiple emergencies to land the aircraft safely, thus saving a valuable PAF asset.

Sqn Ldr Moeen Uddin, GD (P) is commended for displaying outstanding professional skills in handling a serious in-flight emergency on Mirage-III aircraft. On 19 September, 2002 while taking off for an FCF mission, oil warning light came ON at 160 kts. He remained cool, analysed the situation correctly and took prompt abort actions. However, the drag chute snapped on deployment and the brakes were also ineffective. Despite aggravated emergency situation, he effectively maintained directional control to execute a barrier engagement at minimum speed, thus averting an accident.

Sqn Ldr Moeen Uddin, GD (P) is commended for displaying outstanding professionalism in handling a serious in-flight emergency on Mirage aircraft.

On 11 December, 2002, during recovery from a surface attack mission he experienced EOT drop and thrust loss. He correctly analysed the situation

and maintained control of !the aircraft, which had lost thrust significantly. Moreover the aircraft had a severe-fuel leak. He remained cool, took

correct remedial actions and landed the aircraft safely. His cool composure and professional handling of emergency 'saved a valuable PAP asset.

FLt Lt Zeeshan AIi Chaudhry, GD (P) is commended for displaying outstanding professional skills in handling a serious in- flight emer¬gency on F-7PG aircraft. On 17 October, 2002, while on. his. first chase mis¬sion, he experienced main hydraulic system failure, which resulted in loss of main brakes and flaps. 'This emergency warranted landing through a high angle of attack approach and thereafter maintenance of direction without brakes. Despite very low, experience, fie remained calm, took prompt reme¬dial actions and made a safe landing at the base, thus saving a valuable PAF asset.

FLt Lt Amer Mishlah Ahmad, GD (P) is commended for displaying out standing professionalism in handling a serious in-flight emergency on Mirage-III aircraft. On 03 December, 2002, while flying an ACCL mission, he experienced rumbling noise coupled with vibrations from the engine. Analysing the gravity of the situation, he took appropriate steps and immediately During post flight inspection, the turbine blades were found badly damaged and heavy oil leak was observed under the belly of the aircraft. His timely actions and sound judgment saved a valuable PAF aircraft.

Wng Cdr Nadeem Mushtaq Siddiqui, GD(P) is commended for displaying outstanding professionalism in handling a serious in-flight emergency on C-130 aircraft. On 05 January, 2002, during night landing at Chaklala he experienced Essential AC Bus failure. As a result, essential instrument indications were lost. Despite complete darkness, he remained composed, took prompt actions and landed through a visual approach. On landing he did not have anti-skid emergency brakes, but managed to control the aircraft with normal brakes, thereby averting an accident.

Sqn Ldr Adil Sultan Muhammad, GD(P) is commended for displaying outstanding professionalism in handling a serious in-flight emergency on Piper Seneca-II aircraft. On 29 Septemoer,2002, during night 1anding on final approach, all cockpit instrument lights went off. Since there was no alternate source of 1ight available in the aircraft, the cockpit plunged into complete darkness. He remained composed and by using the portable torch 1anded the aircraft safely, thus saving a valuable PAF aircraft.

FLt Lt Muhammad Asif Aslam, GD(P) is commended for displaying outstanding professional skills in handling serious in-flight emergency on MFI-17 aircraft on 18 May, 2002, while flying a solo communication sortie, he experienced heavy grease leakage from propeller resulting into restricted vision through 'the canopy. Despite his limited flying experience, he remained cool and skillfully landed the aircraft at the base, thus saving a valuable

PAF asset.

FLt Lt Faisal-ul-Rehman, GD(P) is commended for displaying outstanding professional skilIs in handling a serious in-flight emergency on F-7P aircraft. On 24 May, 2002, during pitchout, the elevator control of his aircraft got stuck. He remained cool and after analysing the emergency correctly, took prompt actions as warranted. He controlled the aircraft with the help of elevator trim. Despite the severity of emergency and lesser experience on type, he used his good judgement and managed to land the aircraft with the help of elevator trim, and thus saved a valuable PAF aircraft.

Sqn Ldr Amir Shakeel Mushtaq, GD (P) is commended for displaying a high degree of professionalism in handling a serious in-flight emergency on Cessna-172 aircraft. On 16 October, 2001, while flying a communication mission, after take off, he experienced a loud bang with heavy engine vibrations followed by RPM drop. His composure, confidence, correct analysis and prompt actions enabled him to land the aircraft safely on the remaining length of runway thus saving a valuable PAF asset.

FLt Lt Taimur Yousaf GD (P) is commended for handling a serious in-flight emergency on Mirage aircraft on 12 May 1998 , he experienced engine vibrations along with oil warning light coming ON. He jettisoned the fuel tanks in an unpopulated area and recovered the aircraft safely through a regulation approach. His intelligent handling of a critical emergency prevented the loss of a valuable aircraft.

Five star Green Endorsement:

Group Captain M Yousaf Choudhry was commissioned in May, 1975. An accomplished and proficient pilot, he has flown T -6G, MFI-17, T -37, T -33, F-86, F-6, F- 7, Mirage and F-16 aircraft. He has served in various combat and training units of the PAF. He is a graduate of PAF Air War College and has successfully completed professional courses such as FIS and CCS. He has been an instructor on MFI-17, T-37, Mirage and F-16 aircraft. He has also held different staff and command appointments during his service career. Presently, he is commanding a flying wing.
In recognition of having flown 3000 accident free hours, he has been awarded six star green endorsement by the Chief of the Air Staff.

FLt Lt Ahsan Rafique, GD(P) is commended for handling a serious in-flight emergency on F-16B aircraft. On 02 October 1997 after landing, the brakes

did not respond. He immediately switched to brake channel 2 and re-applied the brakes. This time his left brake responded, resulting in abrupt loss of direction. Assessing the situation, he maintained directional control with left brake and right rudder. His prompt and timely action saved a valuable

PAF aircraft.

Flg Off Sajjad Noori, GD(P) is commended for handling a serious in-flight emergency on F-7 aircraft. During recovery he experienced a severe bird hit which partially broke the wind shield and caused splashes of blood and flesh on the screen. Despite obscured front visibility, the pilot remained absolutely cool and made a flawless landing, thus saving a valuable PAF aircraft.

FLt Lt Sarfaraz Khan, GD(P) is commended for displaying excellent professional ability in handling a serious in-flight emergency on A-5 III aircraft. During 'Armament Competition', he experienced left engine compressor stall followed by right engine compressor stall. He cleared the stalls and immediately adjusted for long finals where right engine stalled again. FLt Lt Sarfaraz kept his cool at that critical stage, displayed high degree of professionalism, and safely landed the aircraft thereby saving a valuable asset of the PAF.

Flg Off Muhammad Ahmed Khan, GD(P) is commended for handling a serious in-flight emergency on FT -5 aircraft on 13 October, 1996. During pitch-out in a solo flight, the hydraulic pressure dropped to zero. Fig Off Ahmed remained calm and composed, correctly analyzed the situation and made a safe landing thereby saving a valuable PAF aircraft.

FLt Lt Asim Ejaz, GD(P) is commended for handling an in-flight emergency on F-6 aircraft. On 13 October, 1996 while running ¬in for a banner drop at low altitude, he experienced left engine flame out. On jettisoning the drop tanks, left drop tank did not jettison. He kept his cool, displayed exceptional professionalism and landed the aircraft safely, thus saving a valuable PAF asset.

FLt Lt Yasir Ilyas GD(P) is commended for providing professional help to handle a serious in-flight emergency on F-6 aircraft. On 20 April, 2001, he was detailed as a Mobile Officer. During the take off roII of a 2-ship formation, he observed excessive smoke/fuel leak from No 2's aircraft nacelle area. Analysing the critical situation, he promptly gave call to No 2 to abort. Moments later, he saw the aircraft engulfed in fire. Without any further loss of time, he promptly ordered the pilot to eject, thus saving a valuable life.

FLt Lt Nasim Abbas, GD(P) is commended for handling a serious in-flight emergency on F-7P aircraft. On 29 October 1997 during on FCF mission he experienced an engine flame out at 35 'M'. He remained cool and waited till 16 'M' to get the correct windmill RPM before attempting a relight. His correct analysis and timely relight of the engine saved a valuable PAF aircraft.

FLt Lt Rana Iftikhar GD(P) is commended for handling a serious in-flight emergency on T-37 aircraft. On 15 September, 1997 during a night mission while going around at 300 feet AGL, he experienced abnormal noise from the left engine, accompanied with RPM drop and rapid rise in EGT. He immediately switched off the left engine and landed the aircraft through a single engine approach. His quick and timely action saved the aircraft from any further damage.

On 24 April1997 while flying an ACM mission as an under-training pilot, he experienced an engine flame out during manoeuvring. Despite his low experience on type, he remained calm, did a successful in-flight relight and recovered safely at the base.

Five star Green Endorsement:

Wing Commander M Ashfaque Arain was commissioned in the PAF in October, 1980. He is an experienced fighter pilot and has flown

MFI-17, T -37, FT -5, F-6, FT -6 and F-16. He has qualified a number of service courses including SC &SC, CCS, FSO and QA(P). He has got enough instructional experience to his credit and was IP at No 11 MR Squadron and CCS(F-16). He has also served as chief instructor CCS(F-16).

 

In recognition of having flown 2500 accident free hours, he has been awarded 5 star green endorsement by the Chief of the Ai r Staff. Wing Commander Ashfaques' flight safety record manifests years of arduous struggle to keep up the safety standards. We congratulate him on achieving this prominent distinction.

Wing Commander Khalil Ullah Khan was commissioned in the PAF in October, 1978. An experienced and seasoned pilot, he has flown MFI-17, T-37, F-6, FT-6, FT-S, Mirage III & V, F-16 and F-7P. He has qualified FIS, CCS and IDM courses. During his service career, he has held various command assignments.

 

In recognition of having flown 2500 accident free hours, he has been awarded 5 star green endorsement by the Chief of the Air Staff. Wing Commander Khalil’s flight safety record speaks of years of his conscientious efforts in pursuing flight safety standards. In recognition of having flown 2500 accident free hours, he has been awarded 5 star green endorsement by the Chief of the Air Staff.

Group Captain M Suhaib Afzal, TI(M), was commissioned in the PAF in December, 1975. A proficient and seasoned pilot, he has flown MFI-17, T-6G, T -37, FT -5, F-6, Mirage F-1 and F-16. He has qualified a number of professional courses. During his service career, he has held various staff and command appointments.

 

He also performed instructional duties at PAF Academy. He has also served as OC Flying, Peshawar AB. Group Captain Suhaib’s flight safety record highly speaks of years of dedication and professional attitude towards flight safety. We extend our heartiest congratulations to him on his commendable performance.

Wing Commander Mehboob A Khalid was commissioned in March, 1978. He is an experienced and proficient fighter pilot who has flown MFI-17, T-37, FT -5, F-6, F-16, F-7P and Mirage F-1. He has qualified a number of professional courses such as CCS, FIS, FIC, EW(Staff Officers Course), QA and Air Intelligence. At present, he is commanding No 18 Squadron.

 

In recognition of having flown 2500 accident free hours, he has been awarded 5 star green endorsement by the Chief of the Air Staff.

FLt Lt Tariq Zaheer is commended for handling a serious in-flight emergency on a F-27 aircraft. On 3rd June, 1996, after landing, the nose wheel got locked in one direction and the aircraft started to veer viciously to the left side. He remained cool, calm and maintained directional control with the help of rudder, differential braking and differential power. For his presence of mind, prompt action and professional handling of a serious emergency, he is awarded Special Green Endorsement by Chief of the Air Staff.

Sqn Ldr Musarat Ali is commended for handling a serious in-flight emergency on 27 August, 1995. While flying in the training area on Alouette-III Helicopter, he observed heavy oil leak from main gear box and reacted in a cool and professional manner making a flawless landing despite the hilly terrain. For displaying exceptional professionalism, Sqn Ldr Musarat is awarded Special Green Endorsement by Chief of the Air Staff.

Special Green Endorsement:
Flg Off Muhammad Saad Rahim is commended for professional handling of a serious in- flight emergency on F-7P aircraft. Just after take off, the exhaust nozzles got stuck in full open position, resulting in 40-50% loss of thrust. He controlled the aircraft and selected a clear area for jettisoning fuel tanks. In spite of his low flying experience, he kept cool, handled the emergency in an extremely competent manner and landed back the aircraft safely.

Special Green Endorsement:
Wg Cdr Khalid Kamal, GD(P) is commended for handling a serious in-flight emergency on Boeing 707 aircraft. While flying a VVIP mission from Darwin to Singapore on 13 November, 1995, the pilot experienced flame out of No 1 engine followed by turbine blades shearing off and damage to the engine cowling. He handled the emergency in an extremely professional manner and configured the aircraft for an immediate landing at the maximum certified landing weight. For his display of professional acumen, courage and efficient management of cockpit resources, Wg Cdr Khalid Kamal is awarded a Special Green Endorsement by the Chief of the Air Staff.

Gp Capt Fahmid Iqbal TBt, was commissioned in the P AF in April, 1973. He has flown T -6G, MFI-17, T -37, T -33, F-86, F-6, FT-5, and F-7P aircraft and has accumulated more than 3000 flying hours to his credit. During his service career, he has held various Staff and Command appointments. A graduate of FIS and Air War College. He has also attended Armed Forces War Course at the National Defence College.
           
For having flown 2500 accident-free hours, he has been awarded Five Star Green Endorsement by Chief of the Air Staff. Gp Capt Fahmid Iqbal's flight safety record testifies to his consistent efforts to promote the cause of flight safety. FLt Lt Ahsan Rafiq, while flying a night navigation mission on Mirage aircraft on 1st February, 1993, experienced oil system failure 50 nautical miles from the base, Despite his low night experience, he stayed cool and collected and handled' this serious in-¬flight emergency with outstanding professional competence, He made a safe landing from an Emergency Regulation Approach' , thus preventing the loss of a valuable P AF aircraft. For his professional handling of a serious in-flight emergency, Fit Lt Ahsan Rafiq has been awarded a Special Green Endorsement by Chief of the Air Staff.

Special Green Endorsement:
On 25th April, 1993, Sqn Ldr M Ashfaque Arain just after getting airborne in an F-16 aircraft, saw a bird pass under the aircraft. This was followed by two thuds, indicating that the bird had gone into the engine Anticipating impending engine problem, he decided to land back. The stage of flight was very critical and he took a correct split second decision, handled the situation with true professionalism, and made a safe landing. Post flight inspection revealed serious engine damage. His decision to land back thus averted a serious emergency which could have led to a possible engine failure. For his judgement and professionalism in handling an in flight emergency, Sqn Ldr Ashfaque has been awarded a special green endorsement by Chief of the Air Staff.

Special Green Endorsement:
Flg Off Salman Ahmed was scheduled to fly a Low Level Strike (LLS) mission in FT-7 from front seat on 18th April, 1993, After completion of strike, during recovery he experienced partial power loss in which the RPM failed to advance beyond 60%, Despite the fact that he was extremely low on experience he kept his cool acted upon guidance from the rear occupant and landed the aircraft safely. Flg Off Salman displayed a high degree of professionalism and saved a valuable aircraft by successfully handling a serious in flight emergency in a professional manner

On 17th May, 1993, immediately after take off in a Mirage-III aircraft, Sqn Ldr Imran Zafar experienced oil system failure. Despite having very low experience on the type, he remained calm and composed and through a flawless ‘Emergency Regulation Approach' landed the aircraft safely, thus saving a valuable PAF aircraft. For his exceptional handling of a critical in flight emergency, Sqn Ldr Imran Zafar has been awarded a Special Green Endorsement by Chief of the Air Staff.

Flg Off Zahid Aslam experienced right engine failure while flying an Air Combat Maneuvering (ACM) mission on F-6 aircraft on 4th August 1992, During, recovery, his gears failed to extend with the emergency method, He stayed cool, and with some guidance, finally managed to lower his gears, Despite his low experience, Flg Off Zahid displayed sound professionalism, confidence and determination, and saved a valuable aircraft of the PAF. For his confident handling of a serious in-flight emergency, he has been awarded a Special Green Endorsement by Chief of the Air Staff.

 

Year: 1992

Special Green Endorsement:
FLt Lt Viqar Ali was scheduled to fly a Low Level Strike (LLS) mission in FT 7 from the rear seat on 18th April, 1993. After completion of strike, during recovery, he experienced partial power loss in which the RPM failed to advance beyond 60%. Despite the fact that he was confronted with a grave situation, he kept his cool. He jettisoned the external loads and decided to land back as he was in close vicinity of the base. He managed the available height skillfully and guided the front occupant, who was a non-ops pilot, to land the aircraft safely. Fit Lt Viqar displayed a high degree of professionalism and sound judgement and thus saved a valuable PAF aircraft. For his skillful handling of the emergency, he has been awarded a Special Green Endorsement by Chief of the Air Staff.
